"Harmony" Batik
Batik: method of dyeing a design on cloth by putting wax over parts of
the cloth as a resist.
Black construction paper, glue, pastels
Students discussed what the concept of "harmony" would mean in the Art
and thoughtfully placed a pattern on black paper with glue. After the
glue was able to dry they used pastels to complete the process with
harmonious colors. The final process entailed spraying the piece with a
workable fixative revealing the "glued" lines as black and gave the
illusion of a "Batik" fabric.
"Imagination Magnification"
Texture/Illusion
Students did drawing of choice and then used their imagination to
express what a portion of the piece would look like under a magnifying
glass. This assignment showed a wide variety of finished products from
the texture of a fish scales to ticks and fleas on a dogs back to inside
the window of a classroom. Very impressed with the work the students
produced!
"Simple/Detailed"
Two pieces were completed side by side to show the subject with simple
lines and extreme detail.
