KINDERGARTEN KAPERS—SEPTEMBER 5, 2008
It was nice seeing all of our parents at the PTO and
“hotdog” dinner. The
children get a big kick out of coming back to school in the “off hours”—
Our kindergarten “edline” is up and running off of our
website. I basically post
the same things that I write in my Friday newsletter with regard to math
and reading. I will continue
to send a weekly letter to you all, for housekeeping info and just all
around “stuff” going on.
In reading we have completed our first unit and our Mm
booklet. I know it seems
slow going at first, but, believe me the pace will pick up soon enough.
In math we are sorting by more than one
attribute. We are sorting
sets in different ways and introducing the Venn diagram.
In religion we are learning about God’s creation of
the world and all of its beauty.
Around this time of year I read a book about
“Dangerous Strangers”—it is written for children, not to scare, but, to
inform and teach about the difference between friendly and dangerous
strangers. It has a benign
approach, however, drives home the message.
I encourage you to discuss this issue if you have not already—It
always makes for lively discussion-…so…if your child brings up any of
the gimmicks that a dangerous stranger may use as a lure, it came from
us—ex: someone wanting to
show puppies from a car, someone telling them that their mother wants
them to ride with this person because of an emergency, etc.
The children are pretty savvy when it came to the lures.
Good parenting on your part.
When looking over weekly work, in most cases please
disregard the instructions that are printed at the bottom of the page.
I just use the book as the last introduction of a task.
I change things all the time, give two and three directions at a
time and make a whole lot more out of what you see as the end result.
So…if your child has colored a flower on the left side and it
should have been on the right side, no need to fret…I most likely had
given them a different direction.
Kids learn in so many ways, we try to touch on all of them,
watching, listening and touching before hitting the book—that just helps
us drive home the point.
Thank you so much for the wonderful additions to our
Carnival on the Block basket.
You have been so generous.
Please check the sign up sheet for snacks in October.
Don’t forget milk is 40 cents.
We make change and I know that sometimes coins disappear.
We have them put change in their lunch box or their book bag,
however, some put it in their pockets and by the time recess is over and
they have run and jumped money falls out-there is probably a million
dollars in the mulch alone.
Thank you to Rachael, Casey, Simone and Aria for the
wonderful snacks this week.
Have a great weekend.
